- Manduka's Yogitoes (-85) is the #1 cult-favorite for no-slip yoga mat towels.
- It helps me from sliding off my mat in class despite the heavy sweating in hot yoga.
- The Yogitoes is also appropriately kind to the earth: made from 8+ recycled plastic water bottles and dyes free of azo, lead, or heavy metal.
For the longest time, I left hot yoga classes sore in all the wrong places.
Instead of spending and 60 minutes working on washboard abs, a placid state of mind, or toned arms, I was diverting time and money to the lofty cause of exceptionally strong fingertips and footbeds.
Why? Because hot yoga makes you sweat, and most surfaces — including rented yoga mats — will become slippery under sweat, particularly as much as 90+ degrees and physical activity elicits.
To keep from sliding off my mat into the equally sweaty human beside me, I was driving my feet and fingertips down into my mat like a frog with suction cup feet. Instead of getting into the peaceful, holistic mindset (which is half of why you go to the class) or improving my poses, I was focusing on maintaining the unnatural tension and force needed to remain upright.
If you've ever spent a yoga class like this, it's enough to make you question the exercise itself. "Why do people like this?" I remember asking myself during my first foot-ligament-on-fire moment.
Thankfully, this complaint is so ubiquitous it's pretty much unremarkable in yoga, and there's already a solution for it: yoga mat towels. Typically, these towels are made from a super-absorbent material that absorbs your sweat and dries fast enough to avoid the problem. But if that doesn't work, or you want to solve the problem once and for all, you may want to pick up a yoga towel with skid-less technology — and for that, you're going to want to check out Manduka's Yogitoes.
The Yogitoes ranges from - depending on pattern and comes in sizes 68" or 72". It's soft, super-absorbent, and has 100% silicone nubs known as Manduka's patented "skid-less technology" on the backside to grip the mat, floor, or carpet.

Manduka makes a lot of cult-favorite yoga classics, and their Yogitoes don't disappoint. Iny my gratuitously thorough online search, I didn't come across another option with as consistently positive feedback. It has 140+ reviews on Amazon and a 4.5-star rating, and 60+ with a . There are cheaper options, but the Yogitoes is pretty much peerless — which may have something to do with their proprietary technology. And, at least for me, I was willing to pay a bit more for something I knew would work when I needed it to.
The Yogitoes prints are fun, but my main concern was function over style. Thankfully, the Yogitoes has held up to the hot, sweaty, disgusting yoga classes I've put it through since getting it — and, for the most part, the silicone nubs keep it in place on my mat throughout the 60 minutes. It's not perfect, but it's far better than the lightweight towels I've used in the past that get stuck to your feet and dragged across your mat with you. You may also want to look into grippy exercise socks, though your hands will be free to slide around.
If you're an eco-minded shopper, it's worth noting that Manduka's Yogitoes are also made from 8+ recycled plastic water bottles and all dyes are free of azo, lead, and heavy metal.
Yogitoes can be pricey at - , but if you don't care about the design you shouldn't have trouble getting it for closer to . I'd rather pay more for something that definitely works at a job I want done 100% rather than something that goes 50% of the way there. And, hopefully, it's a one-time cost.
If you're looking for a way to stop slipping and sliding around in a yoga class, this is the best option I've found. It isn't the cheapest, but it is the best. If you're willing to spend a little more for a much better product, Manduka's Yogitoes is what you'll want to get.
